To Review or Not to Review

Paula Savage,

Recently I got asked “Do we need to review the Strategy?”.

The Board annual plan had a day committed for a strategy review workshop.

The current 5-year Strategy is in its second year. The Strategy’s Priorities are clear and the Outcomes specific and measurable. The annual plan flows from the Strategy, and progress is reported regularly to the Board.

“So do they need to review the Strategy?”

What Was Decided

The Board decided to continue with the strategy review workshop in a more focussed format.

  • A deeper review of where strategic priorities progress is lagging and what can be done about it.
  • An important external environment scan of the fast-changing world we live in.
  • Learnings from speakers from similar organisations in the sector and how they are planning for the future.
  • If the last year of the Strategy is the most successful year ever what does that look like? Who has contributed? Who has noticed?

Has your board faced the same question? I’d be interested to hear how you approached it, or to talk through your own strategy review.
